Outdoor Furniture Buying Guide

March 1, 2021

When looking to purchase outdoor furniture for a deck, patio, or other outdoor space, it can be tricky and intimidating to choose the right outdoor furniture. Determining the advantages and disadvantages of each type of outdoor furniture and style can be a cumbersome process. For that reason, we’ve put this together to give you a brief outline of some things to consider when you’re looking to purchase outdoor furniture.

One of the first things to consider when you look to purchase outdoor furniture is the material you’re looking for in your furniture. The most critical choice to make is whether to go with wood furniture or synthetic material, such as poly.

There are several things to consider when comparing wood and poly furniture. One of the most important is the maintenance aspect. While poly furniture requires little to no maintenance, other than an occasional washing to clean off any dirt, wood furniture requires regular maintenance and care. Wood furniture requires sanding, refinishing, and proper storage during the winter.
Even with proper maintenance, there will still be aging with wood, such as cracking and fading, which won’t occur with poly. When properly maintained, however, wood furniture can even last nearly as long as poly furniture. Still, it’s important to note that proper maintenance is required for that to be true.

A final consideration when comparing wood and poly is the aesthetic difference between wood and poly furniture. While many people love the smoothness and long-lasting color options of poly, some still prefer the more traditional look, the general feel, and the wood aesthetic.

Once you’ve determined whether you’d like wood or poly furniture, it’s time to evaluate what you’d like to do with the space that you have available. Are you looking to entertain guests or for an area to relax around a fire? Do you want somewhere to have dinner with the family or just a casual gathering place?

Once you’ve determined what you want to use your space for, you can choose the style of furniture you’d like based on that. At Patiova, we have three basic types to choose from: the Rollback, English Garden, and Adirondack. Each type has several available products, including chairs, benches, and swings.

The English Garden style is an excellent choice for a more upscale, classic look, with a refined and sturdy appearance. At the same time, the Adirondack and Rollback have a more casual appearance. The Adirondack and English Garden styles both have dining chair options to pair with tables. Additionally, they also have more all-purpose, standalone chairs and benches gathered in a circle to create an inviting space.

Hopefully, this guide gave you some things to consider and think about as you look into making a great decision about your backyard furniture. Through your search, one thing to keep in mind is that it’s always a great idea to call a company and discuss the pros and cons of different furniture pieces and styles. At Patiova, we’re happy to discuss in detail the pros and cons of various furniture sets and types, so feel free to give us a call and talk to someone directly at 610-857-1359.
